# Storypane > Storypane is an MIT-licensed, open-source headless CMS and Storyblok alternative. It combines block-level collaborative editing, live preview, nested content, and schema migrations with source ownership and bring-your-own Postgres. Teams can edit separate blocks in the same story, with editing locks, presence, and autosave. Content, block definitions, and assets have dedicated libraries. Operators choose their database provider and location, and control database access, network policies, backups, and retention. Infrastructure costs and technical limits still apply. The recommended team setup is one production space for content editors with schema read-only enabled, plus a linked development space per developer. Developers sync, change schemas, deploy and test in dev, then review and promote deployed migrations to production. Other dev spaces explicitly sync after a promotion. Both block-library parents and nested-block rules travel with migrations. Cloning excludes bulk content/media but reviews required schema-default dependencies; copied stories stay unpublished. Credentials and integrations are configured separately per space. Frontends use the delivery credentials and deployed types of their target space. The management API, SDK, CLI, and stdio MCP adapter support automation with scoped credentials and the CMS authorization rules. Customizations belong directly in application code; the downloadable skills guide agents through existing services and tests. Example integration prompts on the website are illustrative requests, not prebuilt integrations. The CMS runs on Node/Docker. Cloudflare hosts this static marketing website only; the CMS does not run on Workers. Railway implementation is documented, but a fresh installation and hosted template remain unverified and gated.
